I purchased an hp laptop with idt on board audio,but it seems useless to me,can you help please?

the i/o channels on this is internal mic and speakers.i cant believe what i used my money for.i am deejay doing some sound mixing and stuff.when i record anything its like i have a mic right in front of my laptop.prior to this i used creative sound cards and i worked without hassles.what can i use to record midi sounds on my computer without having this internal mic turned on?its frustrating to listen to this kind of trash.
