Cartilage earring backing not fully in?

my cartilage earrings back its like not fully in like idt it is like a regular earring so the person said its because it needs more space to breathe but the thing gets stuck in my hair. is that normal? and what do u guys do to stop getting your hair stuck in the cartilage backing
